Role of Grinding Aids in Cement Grinding

When fine grinding of cement in a ball mill, it is sometimes impractical to fine grinding in a dry state. Even if the chemical reactivity requires the material to be dried and ground, it is sometimes necessary to use a different crusher to obtain the product, but it is usually more expensive, requires more energy and reduces the capacity.

An economical alternative is to use grinding AIDS. A Grinding Aid or a grinding additive is a substance that, when mixed with the contents of the mill, causes the particle size reduction rate and the fluidity to increase. The clinker is grinded by different types of grinding additives and grinding dosage when the operating conditions of the laboratory ball mill are unchanged. These additives are added to the mineral in a certain proportion according to its weight and are ground for a certain time under the same conditions. Then the particle size distribution and compaction coefficient were analyzed. 

The results show that the particle size distribution is obviously improved with the change of the amount and type of grinding additives. Different types of grinding AIDS are only suitable for the grinding of clinker, and other types of grinding AIDS have no significant effect on the grinding of clinker. 

The results show that the addition of grinding additives can improve grinding performance by reducing caking and increasing crushing, thus reducing ball coating, and the use of grinding additives in industry can also significantly improve throughput and particle size distribution.
